Professor John Nolan

Professor John Nolan is the Founder and Principal Investigator of the Nutrition Research Centre Ireland (NRCI).

 

His research group studies the role of nutrition for vision and the prevention of blindness and, more recently, the role of nutrition in brain health and cognitive function.

 

In 2011, he won a European Research Council (ERC) research grant to study the impact of nutritional supplementation  on  visual  function  (CREST  281096). 

 

The  central  retinal  enrichment  supplementation  trials  (CREST) 

identified how targeted supplementation can improve visual function for the general population, and for patients with

age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

 

He has published 98 peer-reviewed scientific papers (3776 citations; H-index =

38). He is currently the editor of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science and

the European Journal of Ophthalmology.
